11 Sep Safer Town: Policing News
Hammersmith town centre and businesses are set to benefit from the reopening of Hammersmith Police Station from late September 2020.
The former 1930s Grade II-listed police station in Shepherd’s Bush Road closed in late 2016 and has since undergone a massive £59 million rebuild. The new station will have a significant impact on reducing crime in the local area and demonstrates the Metropolitan police’s commitment to improving the quality of service they provide to our communities.
The station will act as one of the primary bases for the policing area known Central West – Basic Command Unit (BCU). Approx 2,000 officers have been assigned to this area, and will cover the boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham.
Along with the four key services of emergency response, neighbourhood policing, criminal investigations and specialist safeguarding units; the subsequent rise in high visibility policing from the station will deliver a strong community reassurance message to our business community and local residents.
This greater focus on Hammersmith will also benefit the BIDs PubWatch and ShopWatch groups as well as complementing the BIDs antisocial behaviour, rough sleeping and community safety partnership work with Hammersmith and Fulham council. Business resilience will also be strengthened by the improvement in security vigilance and counter terrorism awareness.
