25 May Bike Week 2021
Bike Week 2021 runs from 30th May to the 5th June, and is a great opportunity to hop on the saddle and start incorporating cycling into your everyday life.
This year’s theme, delivered by Cycling UK, is health and wellbeing, which is especially important as we emerge from too many days of forced inactivity after three lockdowns. There are many ways that cycling can boost both your mental and physical health. It can lower your risk of developing cancer by 45%; it boosts your immunity; and it improves your cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength.
On top of this, cycling is for all ages, it’s a cheap way of getting outdoors and having fun with friends, and it is good for the environment.
Cycling UK has also put together some top tips for helping commuters fit cycling into their busy schedules:
- Squeeze some cycling in before you start your day of work – you’ll hit the ground running and will definitely see a boost in your mental ability.
- Cycle to get your shopping – it is much quicker than walking and you won’t get stuck in traffic in the car.
- Get some lunchtime loops in – stretching your legs and getting your heart rate up in the middle of the day will give you a more productive afternoon of work.
- Take the opportunity to explore somewhere new, off the beaten track.
Last year, more than 5000 people took part in Bike Week, so take a break from your screen, or ditch your morning routine of taking the car to work, and get involved with #7daysofcycling.

The BID’s next Dr Bike event, where you can get your bike checked over, and security tagged, will take place on 17 June. Register your interest in a free service here.
