14 Jul Small Tap, Big Change – A Day in the Life
The BID is creating new opportunities for business to make a difference for homeless people in Hammersmith.
What’s it like to volunteer in Hammersmith and support local homeless charities?
The short answer is that it’s great fun, but it’s also a challenging experience and skilled work. We need the skills of Hammersmith businesses and your colleagues to make our dream of ending homelessness a reality!
Small tap, big change is a ground-breaking initiative launched by Hammersmith BID, aiming to combat challenges associated with homelessness, exclusively in Hammersmith and Fulham.
What does it involve? Here’s a taste of what volunteering with STBC looked like for our volunteers during the Summer Festival 2021:
10:30
- Arrive at Hammersmith BID office, and have a training session and introduction to Small Tap, Big Change and our charities. Then we collect our lanyards, contactless devices and donation buckets.
- 10:50
- Head down to the site – this time there are a lot of us, so we’re next to our Summer Festival Big Screen, with another group going to the Broadway Centre.
- 11:00
- Set-up the fundraising stall and STBC card machines – having an attractive stall and a strong brand helps people know who we are and makes us more approachable.
- 11:30
- We make a start – it’s busy but not too hectic.
- 12:20
- Approaching people is easier when you’re with a group. It’s around lunchtime, so we get quite a lot of interest from passers-by on their lunch breaks or travelling through.
- 13:10
- A food business visited the Summer Festival site today with free tasters to keep us going – there’s plenty of opportunity to chat to businesses too and they’re really supportive.
- 13:55
- We start to wind down now., but there’s time to grab another bite to eat before heading back to the office. It’s good to be on your feet in the morning, but that office chair looks pretty good right now…

We’ve got several days available for you and your team to fundraise during July and August; we will be out and about in the town centre, discussing the initiative with businesses and residents. All we need from you is a commitment of three hours; full training and guidance will be provided.
Volunteering makes a huge difference and we can find an opportunity that fits you!
