Tokyo Olympics LIVE on the Big Screen

This week sees the long-awaited Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, which will be broadcast live on the Big Screen.

Hammersmith businesses, residents and visitors are warmly invited to come and watch the action at 245 Hammersmith Road. The event will be screened at 12noon on Friday 23 July. Deckchairs will be available, together with plenty of standing room on the piazza.

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are being produced by Takayuki Hioki, and the Opening Ceremony will take as its theme “United by Emotion”, which has already become the motto for Tokyo 2020.

“We have designed the ceremonies around the concept that the Games can bring fresh hope and encouragement to people around the world, through the active appearance of athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Games and via the power of sport”, organisers said. “We hope it will be an experience that conveys how we all have the ability to celebrate differences, to empathise, and to live side by side with compassion for one another.”

In the same spirit, please bring your national flag, or wear your team’s colours, so as many countries as possible can be represented.

Following the screening of the Opening Ceremony, the BID, in partnership with 245 Hammersmith, will be showing highlights from the Games every afternoon starting from  Monday 26 July, from 12 until 6pm, so you can pull up a deckchair, enjoy your staycation, and watch your favourite sports from the greatest show on earth.
