05 Jan Enjoying the outdoors: Hammersmith walks
It’s the time of year to walk off all that party food, to get fit or to just enjoy some time outdoors with friends and family.
Hammersmith BID hosts a series of free local guided walks for our Privilege Card holders, taking place on the first Saturday of every month.
The next walk, which will be on Saturday 8th January, focuses on Hammersmith’s agricultural history. Starting at Goldhawk Road tube station at 11am, the route will take in some of the market garden sites, originally used to grow acres of soft fruits, including strawberries. These gardens eventually made way for brickfields – find out how your local landscape has changed shape and use over the years.
In February we mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with a royal-themed walk. The route takes in two former queens of England, both of whom made their homes by the river in West London. Learn about their eventful lives, away from courtly intrigue – and their wayward husbands – and other royal connections to Hammersmith. This walk takes place on Saturday 5 March, starting at Olympia Underground Station.
On Saturday 2 April, our walk investigates music and drama in Hammersmith. Discover more about two of Hammersmith’s most popular entertainment venues, the Eventim Apollo and the recently renovated Riverside Studios. We’ll tell you about famous artists, legendary concerts, TV favourites, and the odd Dalek.
