29 Nov 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence
Putting a stop to gender-based violence
25 November 2022, the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Hammersmith and Fulham Council launched their 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. At Hammersmith BID we launched our quarterly Women’s Safety Forum in 2021. In support of our strategy to improve women’s safety, we want to continue sharing how your organisation can support women’s safety and reduce gender-based violence.
How can you get involved?
You can join and support the initiative by participating in some of the events happening over the next 16 days, or taking part in the survivor consultation.
Event: Stand up to Harassment – 6 December 2022 7.00pm (Online)
Following a growing national conversation around increasing women’s safety, L’Oréal Paris has teamed up with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a leading charity supporting survivors of stalking and harassment in the UK. This session will raise awareness of the prevalence of unwanted and aggressive behaviours, such as harassment, that underlie the broader cycle of violence against women and girls. Moreover, it will teach you how to safely intervene and support women facing harassment in various settings such as public transport, educational institutions, festivals, public spaces, and workplaces to help defuse situations, discourage harassers, and support victims. 800,000 people have been trained worldwide to date. You can join this growing community by signing up here: Webinar Registration – Zoom.
Event: Solidarity with Women in Iran – 7 December 2022 6.00pm – 8.30pm (3 Shortlands)
H&F Women’s network is also hosting an in-person event where panel members will talk about the history of oppression and activism in Iran and discuss both the human rights violations and the wave of courageous activism happening right now. Survivor Consultation: Women and Girls Network
Hammersmith & Fulham Council have commissioned Women and Girls Network (WGN) to run an independent consultation to support the development of a vibrant community of Lived Experience survivors (Lived Experience – those who have experienced violence and abuse), who will direct and influence policy and procedural response to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) within the borough.
As part of this consultation WGN will facilitate a series of group and 1-1 consultations spaces (in person and online) and surveys both for Experts by Lived experience and for professionals, to understand how to increase ‘Lived Experience’ involvement and how to amplify the voice of survivors through strategic representation within the borough.
To help you can:
Help recruit experts by lived experience for the consultation spaces- If organisations have survivors who are interested in participating, please ask them to sign up to theconsultation spaces via this Eventbrite page. Or if they prefer, send their safe contact details to akima@wgn.org.uk and the WGN will make contact with them directly. Consultation spaces will take place throughout November and start of December and are open for people from all genders and identities.
Complete the online surveys- WGN have a survey for Experts by Lived Experience and for professionals. Both should take less than 10 minutes to complete and can be completed anonymously.
Take part in a professional interview to offer a more in-depth view on these issues. If you would like to take part in the interview please email: akima@wgn.org.uk
Please also let us know if your organisation have any regular service-user involvement/ group spaces which might be appropriate for us to engage with for feedback.
