26 Jun Women’s Safety Forum – June 2023
Novotel London West kindly hosted Hammersmith BID’s latest Women’s Safety Forum on Wednesday 7 June 2023. We heard from guest speakers Jessica Twomey and Sarah Walker and welcomed 30 attendees from various local businesses and stakeholders including Disney, Candy Kittens and City University.
Jessica Twomey, LBHF Community Safety Officer and chair of H&F’s Hate Crime Steering Group presented an update on hate crime, explaining what constitutes a hate crime and how to tackle it – as a bystander or a sufferer. Jessica also addressed hate crimes through the lens of misogyny.
Sarah Walker is a Project Manager at the Safer Business Network, leading the Women’s Night Safety Charter work in London. Sarah presented an update on the Charter including their online tool kit which explores ideas on how to make areas, spaces and venues inclusive for women at night. Sarah also touched on the expansion of Ask for Angela in gyms and updated us on plans to bring the Charter into the daytime economy.
The Forum finished with a networking event where light refreshments were available.
