Green Volunteering: Litter Picking with Accor Invest

Green Volunteering: Litter Picking with Accor Invest

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team day, the legal team at AccorInvest joined Hammersmith BID for an afternoon of litter picking. The volunteers were briefed outside 10 Hammersmith Grove before heading to Hammersmith Grove Parklets, Lyric Square and St Paul’s Green for a 90-minute litter pick.

Thank you to our four enthusiastic volunteers who filled six bags of litter containing over 50 cans, 76 bottles, 30 used coffee cups, 12 disposable vapes and over 1,000 cigarette butts, with one volunteer calculating an average collection of ‘seven cigarette butts a minute’.

Quotes

‘I found it surprising how many cigarette butts there were considering how few people smoke nowadays.’ (volunteer)

Words used by the volunteers to describe the Litter Picking – ‘rewarding’, ‘insightful’, ‘surprising’ (volunteers)

Get Involved

Hammersmith BID works with local businesses to support the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. We facilitate litter-picking sessions and other green volunteering opportunities as part of our sustainability commitment. Every act to protect the environment, no matter how small, makes a difference. The campaign inspires people to eliminate litter for current and future generations. Green Volunteering can help permanently change behaviour, spotlight the problem and offer creative solutions.

Volunteers keep a tally of cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, vapes and bulky items they collect throughout the litter picking event. The BID team gathers these figures at the end and reports them via the Keep Britain Tidy website.

We are proud to join #LitterHeroes across the UK, working with employees to create a cleaner and greener Hammersmith.
