31 Jan Transport & Environment Forum: January recap
Hammersmith BID held our January 2024 Transport & Environment Forum at the newly refurbished Ark Café in Hammersmith. Thank you to our hosts, to those who attended and to our guest speakers from Hammersmith & Fulham Council (LBHF) and Transport for London (TfL).
Hammersmith & Fulham Council (LBHF) – Climate Team
It was great to be joined by Cllr Rowan Ree, Cabinet Member for Finance and Reform and Cllr Wesley Harcourt, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Ecology from LBHF who provided updates on the borough’s plan to combat climate change. Information was presented about the H&F Green Investment and how organisations and individuals can invest locally for a fixed 4.85% return.
Please find a link to the video outlining the H&F Green Investment in more detail here.
Transport for London (TfL)
We were then joined by TfL, who delivered the latest news on cycleways in the area and provided an update on Hammersmith Bridge.
- TfL and LBHF will start on concept design for the extension of Cycleway 9 from Shortlands to Olympia in Spring 2024. The build will commence in Spring 2025.
- Due to climate change and the risk of flooding in built up urban areas, TfL are looking to incorporate sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) into the cycleways.
- The stabilisation process of Hammersmith Bridge is still ongoing, but TfL remains committed to working with LBHF to get buses back across the bridge.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council (LBHF) – Smarter Transport Team
We were also pleased to be joined by LBHF’s Smarter Transport Team who provided various updates on cycling in the area.
- 500 new cycle hangars are being rolled out across the borough between 2024 and 2027.
- Dr Bike will be stationed at 3 Shortlands every third Tuesday of the month from 12 pm – 2.30 pm and businesses interested in running a bespoke session should reach out via email.
Hammersmith BID Updates
Before ending the session with lunch and an opportunity for networking, Hammersmith BID provided updates on our latest Public Realm Vision developments, the launch of WalkSafe and plans to establish Hammersmith’s Pride Network.
