Q1 Environmental Walkabout Report

Q1 Environmental Walkabout Report

We are committed to ensuring Hammersmith is a resilient town centre by conducting Environmental & Street Cleansing Walkabouts. During monthly walkabouts we escalate issues across the public realm via the Love Clean Streets app.

During Q1 2024, we reported 115 separate incidents across the BID area. 70% of these incidents have been resolved and following escalation, we anticipate unresolved incidents will be dealt with shortly. Frequent issues reported across Hammersmith Broadway, King Street and Talgarth Road include highway obstructions, graffiti and obstructing e-bikes/e-scooters.

Highway Obstructions – Abandoned Bikes

Over the course of three months, 21 abandoned bikes were found causing obstruction across Hammersmith’s public realm. In addition to reporting via the lovecleanstreets app, we worked together with the Law Enforcement Team (LET) at Hammersmith & Fulham Council (LBHF) to action the removal of the bikes, supporting our commitment to ensuring Hammersmith is a better environment for people to live, work and visit.

Graffiti

Alongside highway obstructions, incidents of graffiti were the most common issue across the public realm. Reports of graffiti accounted for over one third of all incidents escalated from January 2024 to March 2024. Offensive graffiti was removed within 24 hours of reporting and all other graffiti within five working days. We are working together with LBHF, Safer Business Network and Metropolitan Police to prevent anti-social behaviour and reduce graffiti throughout Hammersmith.

E-Scooters / E-Bikes

LBHF is one of the ten London boroughs taking part in the e-scooter rental trial. While there are designated spaces for parked micromobility vehicles, issues with obstructing e-bikes and e-scooters persist within Hammersmith. Due to the obstruction, LBHF have now made it possible for the community to report any incidents directly via the lovecleanstreets app. Obstructing vehicles are removed within 24 hours of reporting and if you have any ongoing e-bikes and e-scooter related concerns, please email us at Hammersmith BID and we will escalate this further.
