30 Aug Q3 Transport Updates
Piccadilly Line Closure
Ahead of the Piccadilly line upgrade, the planned 16-day part closure is underway and running until Sunday 1 September. If you are a retail or hospitality business operating in Hammersmith, or you are travelling to the area for weekend shopping, entertainment or dining out, please also be aware there are further weekend closures scheduled across September and October. These temporary closures will allow for a series of vital track and platform upgrades ahead of the 2025 introduction of the new fleet.
In the meantime, Transport for London (TfL) is providing rail replacement buses and advising customers to allow more time for their journeys. You can find more detailed travel advice here on the TfL website.
2024 Passenger Number and Fares
Hammersmith is one of London’s key transport hubs. Not only does the area serve 24 bus routes, but it also has four tube lines running through it – the District, Piccadilly, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines – with Piccadilly line trains running every 15 minutes from Hammersmith to Heathrow terminals 2 & 3.
Despite Hammersmith’s vast public transport network, it is no surprise there was a drop in the number of people opting to travel into and out of Hammersmith by tube during the pandemic – 2020 usage was at around 20% of 2018 and 2019 levels. More than four years on, while many have returned to using public transport, the post-Covid-19 shift in working patterns is still present. The number of people commuting into and out of Hammersmith is still down at around 80% of pre-Covid levels, with daily footfall at around 44,696 on weekdays and 30,663 on weekends.
