Menopause Awareness Month 2024

Menopause Awareness Month 2024

October is Menopause Awareness Month. Established in 2009 by the International Menopause Society, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, World Menopause Day is held on 18 October every year.

Why is menopause awareness important in the workplace?

Six million of the 33 million employees in the UK are experiencing menopause, with one in ten leaving their role due to their menopause experience. One of the ways organisations can support their employees, retain talent and reduce absenteeism is by creating open discourse and eliminating the taboo around menopause. At work, adjustments to improve the health and wellbeing of those experiencing menopause might include flexible working patterns and access to specialists. Promoting a culture where employees aren’t afraid or embarrassed to talk about menopause can ensure people are aware of the support available to them.

How can you get involved?

At Hammersmith BID we will be marking Menopause Awareness Month with our next Women’s Safety Forum, which will take place on Wednesday 9 October, 4 pm – 5.30 pm.

Hammersmith employees are invited to learn more about menopause and the beneficial role yoga can play. Libby Stevenson will be leading the session; Libby is a certified menopause yoga teacher, wellbeing expert and member of the British Menopause Society.

This session is open to people of all ages, whether you are experiencing menopause symptoms now or would just like to learn more about navigating this stage of life and feel better equipped with knowledge.

From 5 pm, attendees will also be invited to take part in an optional 30-minute yoga session. No previous yoga experience is required.
