28 Apr Sharing the results of our Ballot Consultation
Since January, we have been consulting with our levy-paying businesses about their views on Hammersmith, what they want to see in our town centre and their priorities and feedback on the BID’s work over the last five years. The results of these consultations will form our next five-year business plan, covering April 2026 to April 2031. Our businesses will vote on this business plan in September 2025, when Hammersmith BID goes to Ballot for another five-year term.
So far, we have consulted with 127 businesses which represent 200 hereditaments or £56.74m of rateable value, 67% of our total levy-paying hereditaments.
Over the past five-year term, the BID has invested a total of £4.8million into Hammersmith town centre. £3.6million was received through BID levy and the BID has generated an additional £1.2million investment through other sources.
We have been thrilled to hear that 99% of respondents to our consultation so far were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the BID’s work, and 77% intended to vote yes to secure another five years of investment into the town centre.
The results of our in-depth consultation meetings have shown clear priority areas for Hammersmith’s business community, which we will be developing in the business plan.
Safety & crime prevention
With nearly 90% of businesses putting crime prevention as one of their top five priorities, this area came out as a front-runner across all sectors. While our borough is ranked as one of London’s safest, issues such as shoplifting have risen across the capital and country, and it is clear our businesses want continued support from the BID on these issues.
Town look & feel
Another clear theme was the town look and feel, and the general health of the high street. Respondents were often happy with the current mix of shops and leisure offer, but there were concerns about the future of King Street and how we can improve it as a pleasant and practical area for shopping and dining that meets resident, worker and visitor needs.
With several major new developments coming to the Hammersmith area, including the Civic Campus and Olympia London, the BID will have a crucial voice in ensuring King Street and Hammersmith town centre feel the benefits that will come with being the transport gateway to these new and exciting destinations.
Community, vibrancy & events
Respondents love the seasonal events we put on in Hammersmith, such as the Summer Festival and Christmas switch on. Our events are highly visible and are recognised as bringing an energy to the town centre, with 62% putting this area as one of their top five priorities. The Privilege Card and CSR opportunities are also attractive perks, and our businesses show a strong desire to give back to the local community through charity work, volunteering days and taking part in our community events.
The next steps
Feedback from the consultations will be used to draw up the BID’s next business plan, which will set out how the levy income will be spent from 2026 to 2031. From Friday 19 September to Thursday 16 October, businesses will have a chance to vote on whether they want to see this business plan enacted.
