In November 2023, we launched our newly expanded Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) with the Met Police, Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Fulham Broadway BID, and Safer Business Network (SBN).
Funded by BIDs operating in our borough, Safer Business Network works closely with local businesses to gather intelligence and evidence on prolific offenders and organised crime groups in our area, which is passed on to the authorities.
As part of their work, SBN encourage businesses to sign up to Alert!, an app where businesses can report information about recent low-level crime and upload CCTV footage to share the offender’s identity.
Recently, a local sales manager was able to identify a prolific shoplifter through Alert!. Hammersmith BID reported this to the shopping centre management and their security confirmed their ID and that the offender would be banned from the centre. Because of their history of theft noted on Alert! and updated profile, should they return, it might be the push needed for Police to issue an official exclusion from the area.
This is a great example of our Business Crime Reduction Partnership in play. We encourage businesses to continue to upload incidents to Alert! as well as reporting officially to the Police.
