Business Spotlight – TK Maxx

We caught up with the general manager of TK Maxx, Stuart Ede, for a quick fire interview to find out more about the popular retailer.

What is your business & what’s your biggest seller?
TK Maxx sells branded fashion and homeware at up to 60% off the retail price. Because we sell such a cross section of items – women and men’s fashion, accessories, designer homeware – it’s tough to say because they all do equally well.
How long have you been in Hammersmith?
The King Street store has been in Hammersmith for 13 years and over that time it’s become the most successful TK Maxx store in the UK and Ireland and second in Europe after Berlin.
When are you at your busiest?
We have a good flow of people most of the time but we really see a lot of shoppers on Saturday afternoons.
Who are your typical customers?
We get a real mix, but we see a lot of fashionistas and bargain hunters, who really look for those great items.
What’s your unique selling point?
As TK Maxx is the only off price retailer in the UK we sell famous fashion brands, big labels and designer gems at up to 60% less than recommended retail price every single day. We offer the customer brands from thousands of vendors around the world.
Tell us an interesting fact about the business?
TK Maxx has been a very strong supporter of Red Nose Day since 2005, raising a massive £13.4million for Comic Relief. Our Red Nose Day designer T-Shirt collection goes on sale from January 26, so wear something funny for money, and help us transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and across Africa.
