Business Crime Partnership keeping the town safe

The BID’s Business Crime Partnership has been resolute this past month as excellent work from the CCTV operator and the police team have resulted in criminals being caught red-handed whilst in the town centre.

One high street retailer used the BID’s Safetynet Radio System to contact the CCTV operator about a thief stealing goods from the area. The man was picked up on a camera and the operator watched as he removed stolen item wrappers and alarm devices. Police were guided to his exact location where he was promptly arrested.

Similarly two suspects were seen de-tagging and stealing shoes from a King Street shop before making their getaway. The Safer Neighbourhood Team gave chase and following directions from the operator, arrested the suspects and returned the goods. Finally, a suspect left a King Street technical equipment retailer with various items only to stop for a sandwich. Unfortunately for him, he was being monitored and the police were on hand to grab him and locate the stolen goods.

Criminals targeting retailers and stealing goods are being regularly featured on the HammersmithLondon Shopwatch site, with the aim of identifying these unwanted individuals and stopping them from committing offences whilst on the premises.
