30 Apr A look back at the last 12 months
Every year, we take stock of the achievements of the BID over the last 12 months.
Our work covers three main project areas which we know are priorities for the businesses of Hammersmith. Commitment to the green economy is key to our work, with a focus on improving air quality, greening the public realm and boosting biodiversity.
A strong sense of security is essential for our businesses. We collaborate daily with local and national partners to help achieve this for Hammersmith and those who work and spend time here.
Our events programme helps to create a vibrant atmosphere in Hammersmith, with our festivals and activations bringing in thousands to the town centre and bringing more trade in for our businesses.
Take a look at a few highlights from the last year…
Public Realm and Green Investment
- We delivered our regular Transport and Environment Forum and our Women’s Safety Forum throughout the year. These offer an opportunity for levy payers to hear updates from stakeholders such as H&F Council and TfL, share good practice and inspiring case studies and have their views heard on issues and changes to the town centre.
- Pledged to #KeepBritainTidy, leading 12 litter picks with 131 volunteers from Hammersmith-based businesses.
- Saved 1,778 items and 506kg of clothing from landfill through our Clothes Swaps in partnership with Livat Hammersmith.
- Installed seasonal lighting throughout Hammersmith to coincide with the Christmas period and darker winter nights, and supporting our aim of improving women’s safety. And in the summer, we provide hanging baskets to add a splash of colour and help improve the biodiversity.
- Developed our Public Realm Vision for a greener and more welcoming Hammersmith town centre.
Security and Resilience
- This year we launched our new Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) along with Discover Fulham. We also joined Safer Business Network (SBN) – to date, our SBN Engagement Officer has made 159 visits to Hammersmith businesses since December 2023. These measures ensure Hammersmith’s businesses are connected into crime-tackling initiatives across London and the UK.
- We launched Alert, our secure and GDPR-compliant intelligence platform that enables businesses to share and report intelligence about offenders. Thanks to levy payer input, since February 2024 we have recorded 70 incidents and offenders through Alert, helping to build a clearer picture of local crime and identify repeat offenders.
- We continued to fund dedicated, 24/7 CCTV support for Hammersmith town centre.
- We have taken an active role in steering groups such as the Hammersmith Town Centre Forum, the Hate Crime steering group and the monthly Met Police BCRP drop-in session, and attended various security conferences to hear the latest in research and reporting on crime.
Community and Partnerships
- Our Summer Festival entertained 44,000 people with four weeks of free film and theatre nights, live Wimbledon, Picnic in the Square and Wellness Wednesdays classes at our Summer Festival in July, plus our three days of free live music in August on St Paul’s Green.
- Our Summer Festival marketing campaign that was seen by over 200,000 people across our social media, with a leaflet door-dropped to local homes.
- We expanded our Privilege Card scheme to feature 14 new businesses, with weekly email to 10,000 new subscribers, and hosted 10 pop-up events to help local office workers save money through the scheme.
