The BID presents its vision at National BIDs Conference

National BIDs Conference 2021

Hammersmith BID’s team attended the National BIDs Conference 2021, which was held at the Leadenhall Building on Thursday 4 November and hosted by British BIDs.

In the first large-scale event for many months it was refreshing and stimulating to see a variety of BIDs from across the country attend in person.

Keynote speaker Vicky Pryce gave the floor an expert economic overview, as she looked at the Eurozone, assessed the likelihood of economic crises, and expressed some optimism for the UK economy. Writer and broadcaster Paul Mason gave a dynamic and engaging presentation about the meaning of “place” – how COVID has changed our expectations of where and how to work; and how we can expect our town centres, and other places, to recover.

A range of other speakers were heard in between lively networking sessions, held against the backdrop of the City. The BID’s Director of Public Realm, Livia Caruso, talked about our focus on sustainability and green investment, a central delivery promise in the BID’s Business Plan 2021 – 2026. She explained that our Public Realm Vision intends to transform Hammersmith into one of the greenest town centres in the country, by creating a more connected space that champions sustainability, inclusivity and local identity.

The conference heard from other BIDs too, including the New West End Company, which is using an extensive business audit to inform its plans on sustainability; and Ruth Duston, of Primera, who introduced plans for the Eastern City Partnership, a new BID emerging in the City.
