CCTV Operator helps police swoop down on known shoplifters

The BID’s eagle-eyed CCTV operator has spent the past month monitoring known troublemakers and helping the police make key arrests.

A group of known shoplifters were spotted in the area by a retailer’s security team and reported this to the operator. As one of the group was wanted, the operator tracked them down and led the police straight to their whereabouts in Blacks Road, where the wanted man was subsequently arrested.

In another incident, the security team from a Kings Mall retailer advised the operator of a suspicious man who was trying to conceal up to £800 worth of stolen goods. The would be thief barged past the guard as he tried to stop him leaving the store, and fled towards Angel Walk. The operator tracked his movements and fed that information back to the teams on the ground who subsequently arrested him.

In an example of the BID’s excellent town centre security model, guards from multiple retailers monitored a notorious thief as he brazenly made his way from one shop to the next. Reporting his progress to the operator, police were notified and swooped in to make the arrest. He was found with two pairs of jeans which he had tried to conceal under his jacket.
