23 Jul Celebrating 10 years of HammersmithLondon Roof Garden
Lyric Fest, a two-day festival organised by Lyric Theatre and Hammersmith BID, kicked off in celebration as crowds gathered to toast the ten-year anniversary of the HammersmithLondon Roof Garden at the Lyric Theatre.
Originally designed by Adam White and Andrée Davis, working for the environmental charity Groundwork, the roof garden on the first floor of the Lyric Theatre was transformed from a cold, uninviting, paved area into a new green roof terrace garden, available for all to enjoy.
Since then the garden has won numerous accolades including awards from Landscape Institute Design, BALI Landscape, Horticulture Week Design and is listed in Elle Decors top ten most unusual and enchanting gardens.
Adam and Andrée have subsequently gone on to specialise in designing public space as Davies White Ltd and have recently worked with the Duchess of Cambridge at Chelsea Flower Show 2019 on creating her garden ‘Back to Nature’.
The crowds soon gathered for the start of Lyric Fest, with performances by singers Kal Lavelle and Emily Mutaako and both Patricia Bench, Director, Hammersmith BID and Adam White, Director, Davies White Ltd came together to cut the cake to mark the garden’s success.
Patricia Bench, Director, Hammersmith BID: “Ten years ago we opened this roof garden and it is such a lovely space that everyone enjoys. It has been a roaring success and Hammersmith BID are thrilled to have helped to fund and support it. It is something close to our heart.”
Adam White, Director, Davies White Ltd: “It is great you have all come out for this event, I tell all designers now that you can design playfulness into every space. I am delighted to be here this evening and I would like to raise glasses to Hammersmith BID and the Lyric Theatre who helped create this project and have kept it alive.”
