Celebrating 20 years of Hammersmith BID with five achievements transforming the town centre

Hammersmith Business Improvement District (BID) is celebrating a major milestone with the launch of five standout achievements over its five terms that have helped shape Hammersmith into a thriving, welcoming and resilient destination for businesses, workers and visitors.

Since its inception, Hammersmith BID has worked in partnership with local businesses and stakeholders to invest in the area, support economic growth and enhance the everyday experience of the town centre. Between 2006 and 2026, £16million has been invested into the town centre through Hammersmith BID, with a further £5million pledged for the next five years. From major public realm improvements to community events and business support initiatives, the BID’s impact can be seen across Hammersmith since it was first voted in by businesses in 2006.

To mark the occasion, the BID has highlighted five of its most significant achievements over its five terms, spanning 20 years of working for Hammersmith:

  1. A vision for the future of Hammersmith’s public realm

The BID’s Public Realm Vision for Hammersmith East sets out an ambitious, long-term plan to transformthe area around the Lower Bus Station, Butterwick and the Flyover into a greener, more welcoming environment. Back in 2016, the BID won a Place Management Award for its innovative Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), transforming Talgarth Road into a green corridor. This highlighted the opportunity to reimagine this area of Hammersmith and led to the current vision which provides a clear roadmap for future investment. Already, opportunities have been unlocked for funding and delivery, including new planting on Butterwick funded by a BID business in 2025 and new lighting under the flyover from H&F Council in 2026.

  2. Championing local businesses through Made in H&F and revitalising lesser used spaces

The BID’s Made in H&F shop has become a powerful platform for local traders and entrepreneurs and helped to diversify the town centre’s retail offering. First opened in 2018, it has taken numerous forms around Hammersmith and in its current iteration at both the Broadway Centre and Livat Hammersmith has generated over £100,000 for traders, plus revenue reinvested back into the project.

  3. Connecting a growing local community

Launched in 2008 and now withmore than 18,000 users, the BID’s Privilege Card has become a key tool in driving footfall and loyalty, encouraging people to shop, eat and spend locally while supporting businesses across Hammersmith. Users have enjoyed perks over the years at our events, such as a free soft drink or a tote bag, and the scheme has transitioned from a physical card and app to a digital card accessible on any smartphone. With new offers being added all the time, make sure you’re signed up

  4. Bringing people together through unforgettable events

From Andy Murray winning Wimbledon in 2013 to Britain’s sporting success at the 2024 Olympics, Hammersmith BID’s events over the years have created special moments to bring the whole community together. Since the Big Screen’s first year in 2010, the Summer Festival has entertained hundreds of thousands of people with free events and screenings, and the BID’s annual events calendar has helped celebrate seasonal moments and put Hammersmith on the map.

  5. A long-term commitment to safety and partnership

Through its Business Crime Reduction Partnership, Hammersmith BID has built a strong, ongoing relationship with the Metropolitan Police and local partners to tackle business crime since the BID’s inception. This collaborative approach has evolved over time to respond to changing challenges, ensuring that businesses continue to feel supported and protected.

Commenting on the milestone, BID Director Livia Caruso said:

“We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved in Hammersmith through collaboration, investment and a shared commitment to the area. These five achievements represent just a snapshot of the work delivered over the years, from supporting businesses and improving public spaces to creating a strong sense of community.

“As we look ahead, we remain ambitious for Hammersmith and focused on building on this momentum by working with our partners to ensure our town centre continues to thrive as a place to do business, visit and enjoy.”

Hammersmith BID will be celebrating its 20th year with a programme of events which kicked off with Row Fest on Easter weekend, with a live screening of the Boat Race, family entertainment, free film showings and more.
