15 Sep Champagne bubble installation for St Paul’s Green
As a key element of its Welcome Back campaign, Hammersmith BID has created a semi-permanent “bubble” installation across St Paul’s Green. Inspired by a similar initiative in Domino Park, New York, the grass has been painted in the shape of larger than life champagne bubbles, allowing groups of up to 6 to meet up safely for lunch or drinks, and making the most of Hammersmith’s open spaces.
St Paul’s Green is already a popular spot for lunch, and the ‘bubbles’ make it easier to safely distance. With over 30 bubbles of differing sizes, the installation has arrived in good time to make the most of the brilliantly sunny September weather, as many people are choosing to meet and eat outside.
Hand in hand with the bubble installation, a new parklet has been installed in Hammersmith’s Overstone Road, to add to the many other outdoor areas where people can meet up in safe and pleasant surroundings.
Other elements of Hammersmith BID’s Welcome Back campaign include the installation of the BID’s Big Screen in Lyric Square, which is broadcasting a mixture of video, images and content from our local theatres and arts venues, as well as promotions from local businesses; and the recent Touring Kerbside Entertainment programme. This hugely successful initiative brought back live music, theatre and dance to the town centre and also to the homes of vulnerable or shielding residents.
Patricia Bench, BID Director, commented:
“We are all experiencing degrees of change, but Hammersmith BID continues to demonstrate agility in these challenging times. We are able to react quickly to a dynamic business and retail landscape, and present campaigns and solutions that add value to our businesses. By focusing on an overarching message of ‘welcome’ – we are reinforcing the fact that Hammersmith is safe, and continues to be an energetic, pleasant place to live and work, despite all the upheaval of recent months.”
