17 Aug Community outreach in Hammersmith
As we welcome more businesses and workers back to Hammersmith, the wellbeing of everyone in the town centre remains a priority for the BID.
We are continuing to work closely with Hammersmith & Fulham Council and outreach services to identify areas where businesses can come together to make a positive difference. One of these areas is to assist vulnerable and rough sleepers in our area.
The Hammersmith community can report vulnerable individuals who may be rough sleeping via StreetLink London. StreetLink London exists to help end rough sleeping in the capital by enabling members of the public to connect people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them.
This can be done via the website or through the Streetlink smartphone app. An enquiry regarding any individual in Hammersmith will result in our local support team being contacted.
Although some of the individuals begging in the town centre may have fallen on hard times, we also have an organised cohort on our streets who may be linked to a wider gang network that exploits community kindness. This particular issue is being managed in partnership with the police and council. Concerned businesses can report any incidents of antisocial street begging via your SafetyNet radio to CCTV.
If your business would like to get involved in fundraising activity to support our local homeless outreach services, please consider supporting Small tap, big change, a BID initiative which aims to combat challenges associated with homelessness, exclusively in Hammersmith and Fulham. Money raised through Small tap, big change goes directly to local H&F homeless charities funding additional beds, hot meals, washing facilities, outreach services and life skills coaching.
Businesses can also volunteer with Small tap, big change for a day – read more about our CSR opportunities here.
