12 Jan Eventim Apollo leave touching David Bowie tribute
The Eventim Apollo left a touching tribute for pioneering musician David Bowie who died on Monday (January 11) aged 69.
Referencing a line from his famous song Heroes, the message was illuminated on the Hammersmith venue’s facade, reading: ‘A hero for more than one day. RIP David Bowie’.
The iconic singer had close ties to the venue as he famously rocked the music world in 1973 when he took to the stage of the then Hammersmith Odeon, to announce the end of his androgynous alien alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust, a character that had brought him such reverence the world over.
Many feared this retirement would signal the end of Bowie, but it was simply time for music’s chameleonic maestro to reinvent himself, something that he would do time and time again during his 50-year-career.
