04 Sep Free Guided Walk Programme 2019/2020
Free for all Hammersmith BID Privilege Card holders, the first Saturday of each month plays host to insightful one-hour walks, exploring the rich history and heritage of Hammersmith.
The programme for the next season of walks, running from November 2019 to April 2020, includes a great range of culture, architecture and exciting local landmarks:
2 November 2019: A Bridge over Hammersmith
As Hammersmith Bridge closes for repairs, walk along this much-loved crossing and learn more about its construction and its engineer, born 200 years ago this year.
7 December 2019: All the Borough’s a Stage
Discover a lost theatre used by the BBC and the Goons, a ‘Palace of Varieties’ and the story of the Lyric Theatre.
4 January 2020: William Morris Guided Walk
William Morris, 19th century visionary socialist, author, and designer of wallpaper and fabrics, lived for 18 years by the river in Hammersmith. Hear more about his life and enjoy a private visit to the museum in what was once the Morrises’ kitchen.
1 February 2020: Hammersmith Schools for Boys
Several renowned actors, sportsmen and musicians have been educated in Hammersmith. Discover some of these well-known former pupils of Latymer School and St Paul’s School.
7 March 2020: The Boat Race
Take a walk along the riverside that later this month will be packed with spectators watching the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Races. Hear about its past glories – who won, who lost – and who sank.
4 April 2020: St. Paul’s Church
Visit the interior of this familiar Hammersmith landmark, with its memorials to local artists, soldiers, merchants – and a world-famous plantsman.
