This Saturday, 2nd May, join our Blue Badge Guide on a walk commemorating the 70th anniversary of VE Day and Hammersmith’s role in it.
Hammersmith played a vital role in defeating Adolf Hitler. This month’s walk recalls General Montgomery using his old boys’ school St Pauls to plan the second front, Operation Overlord. He eventually put 200,000 men onto a hostile shore, predicting a 90-day break-out. He beat his own prediction by ten days. This, despite Hitler throwing everything at Hammersmith in February 1944. On our walk we follow the tread of Nazi bombs.
