09 Jun Giving loneliness a voice in Hammersmith
From 15 to 21 June 2026, Hammersmith BID is proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week, a global campaign led by Marmalade Trust that aims to reduce the stigma around loneliness and encourage more open conversations about connection and belonging.
As part of our Conscious Hammersmith programme, we are working with local businesses and office buildings to help make Hammersmith one of the UK’s most connected communities.
Loneliness is something that can affect anyone, regardless of age, background or circumstance. By creating opportunities for conversation and reflection, we hope to encourage a culture where people feel more connected, supported and able to talk openly about their experiences.
About Loneliness Awareness Week
Loneliness Awareness Week is the world’s largest campaign dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and inspiring connection.
This year’s theme, Giving Loneliness a Voice, encourages people to recognise loneliness as a natural human emotion and create spaces where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgement.
By starting conversations and encouraging connection, we can help reduce stigma and remind people that they are not alone.
How Hammersmith Is Taking Part
Throughout the week, businesses and organisations across Hammersmith will be taking part in a variety of activities designed to encourage connection and wellbeing.
Several office buildings will be hosting Walls of Feelings, dedicated spaces where employees, occupiers, visitors and guests can anonymously share reflections on connection, belonging and community. Using simple prompts such as “Connection feels like…” and “One thing that helps me feel connected is…”, participants will be invited to contribute their thoughts and read messages from others.
While these activities are internal to each building, they provide a simple yet powerful opportunity to encourage conversation and reflection in the workplace.
We are also delighted to see local organisations supporting the campaign in other ways. Kindred London has partnered directly with Marmalade Trust to help raise awareness of the campaign and encourage conversations around loneliness and connection.
Why It Matters
Research shows that loneliness can affect anyone at different stages of life. Yet many people still feel uncomfortable talking about it.
By creating opportunities for people to share their experiences, connect with others and recognise that loneliness is a normal human emotion, we can help build stronger and more supportive communities.
Sometimes, a small conversation, a shared reflection or a simple act of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
How You Can Get Involved
Whether at work, at home or in your local community, everyone can play a part in creating more connected communities.
You could:
