Scheme offers discreet help in Hammersmith’s pubs

Hammersmith is rightly proud of the positive impact that its pubs have on the local area – from providing a place to socialise after work, to creating a destination for nightlife in west London.

“Hammersmith is a destination – it’s the place to go out, out!”

– Elaine Jackson, Hammersmith Hero 2020

If at any point you are in one of our great Hammersmith town centre pubs and feel vulnerable due to unwanted attention, or unsafe on a date, you can discreetly request assistance by approaching any staff member and asking for “Angela”.  #AskforAngela is an innovative campaign safeguarding individuals at risk in licensed premises.

Also available in pubs and clubs across the capital and country-wide, the ‘Ask for Angela’ initiative aims to reduce the risk of sexual violence or other harrassment. It provides customers with a non-descript phrase they can use to gain assistance from staff members, in order to be separated from the company of someone with whom they feel unsafe due to that person’s actions, words or behaviour.

By “Asking for Angela”, an individual is alerting staff that they require help. They will be taken aside, or to a safer location, so they can speak in confidence to a staff member about what assistance they need.

Hammersmith BID encourages you to enjoy the town centre pubs that we have on offer. We will continue to develop our crime prevention and security projects for the benefit of businesses and the public.

Please contact Gordon Brockie g.brockie@hammersmithbid.co.uk to find out more or to register your interest in our upcoming Business Crime and Safety meeting.
