Hammersmith BID commences planning for Public Realm Vision

One of the core parts of the BID’s Business Plan for 2021 – 2026 is Public Realm and Green Investment.

The BID has committed to investing in green infrastructure, while supporting and lobbying for further improvements to our public realm here in Hammersmith.

As our fourth term commenced on 1 April 2021, the BID team immediately started work on the creation of our new, green Public Realm Vision as a priority project.

The team has prepared an initial briefing document, which once finalised will be issued to a number of architects, through a private tender.

On 14 April, a meeting of the Hammersmith Public Realm Vision Working Party was held, in order to discuss the preparatory work that the BID has undertaken and to invite feedback and input from these key stakeholders. The Working Party is made up of representatives from local businesses, Hammersmith & Fulham Council officers and councillors, architects and advisers to the BID, landowners and investors in Hammersmith town centre, transport partners including Transport for London and local residents. This is to get as wide-ranging a response as possible and, ultimately, a final vision that will resonate with all members of the local community who are and will be using the space.

The prime objectives of the Public Realm Vision project are as follows:

  • To create a strategic design for a coordinated, connected green Public Realm for Hammersmith town centre
  • To have an overarching vision for the town centre that can be delivered as a series of individual interventions
  • To result in a more resilient, attractive and sustainable town centre

The working party discussed the integration of this ambition within the other active developments in the town centre, as well as the Town Centre Masterplan and other influences. The brief will be further developed before it is issued to a chosen list of architects, as the BID seeks a long term partner for this project.

We will be keeping our businesses fully informed on the progress of our Public Realm Vision. Any queries should be directed to Livia Caruso.
