19 Jul Hammersmith BID’s Big Screen Success
Larger than life characters, dramatic plots and gripping sports matches kept eager viewers entertained during Hammersmith BID’s award-winning Summer Festival, as the Big Screen came back to Hammersmith.
Working with The Royal Opera House as part of BP Big Screens, Lyric Square became the setting for the wonderful operas Carmen and The Marriage of Figaro, a hit with all ages.
Plus, there was plenty for sports fans to enjoy with Wimbledon screened live throughout the tournament and the ICC Cricket World Cup final also shown, creating a buzzing atmosphere as visitors were able to watch history in the making.
Movie lovers were not left disappointed as the much-loved Mamma Mia kicked off the screenings and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again brought it to a close, with people grabbing the opportunity to nab a deck chair, sing along and enjoy the free shows.
The screenings were a resounding success with hundreds of people turning out during the three-week event. Hammersmith BID is committed to bringing the best in entertainment to the area and working to strengthen the business community, with plenty more planned for the Summer Festival this weekend.
Patricia Bench, Hammersmith BID Director, said: “The screen has been incredibly well received and it is always such a pleasure to see Lyric Square teeming with so many people who gather to enjoy the sports, opera and movies that are shown. The screenings continue to attract a diverse audience and we are very pleased to be able to offer such a vibrant and inclusive summer programme of events for everyone.”
Alex Beard, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, said: “The BP Big Screens are a much-loved highlight of the summer calendar across the UK, and I am delighted that we once again beam the best the Royal Opera House has to offer to an ever-wider audience. Over the years, our collaboration with BP has enabled more than half a million people to experience ballet and opera – many for the first time – and together we bring this summer highlight to people all over the UK.”
