27 Jul Hammersmith BID’s Open Spaces Proposal for businesses
Hammersmith BID has been working hard to help businesses with plans to reopen safely, particularly looking at how outdoor seating areas can be used for hospitality businesses to increase capacity while maintaining social distancing measures.
We have spoken to local businesses, board members, police, and the council who all like the sound of what we are seeking to achieve.
While we wait for confirmation from the council’s markets team with regard to creating a “piazza” with outdoor seating on Lyric Square, we have in the meantime negotiated with the council to extend outdoor space for existing businesses on the square. We hope this will come into effect soon.
Parklets
We have also looked at how to best make use of our Parklets programme. We currently have 5 parklets installed for public use on Hammersmith Grove. We have identified a possible additional space on the corner of Overstone and Glenthorne Roads to install a parklet containing 20 covers for the adjoining pub, the Dartmouth Castle. This would provide secure additional capacity for customers, with planters and perspex screens separating tables and seating.
