Hammersmith Black History Walk

Hammersmith BID is excited to be bringing back its hugely successful FREE guided walks this autumn.

Last year, the BID celebrated Black History Month in October with a digital exhibition of art, a curated reading list, and more digital content. This year, we are bringing back a dedicated series of events to raise awareness of black contributions in the arts, and also of Hammersmith’s rich black history.

The Walk will commence at 11am on Saturday 9 October, and participants should meet at West Kensington Underground Station. All of our tours last an hour and finish in Lyric Square, in the centre of Hammersmith.

BID director Patricia Bench said:

“We are thrilled to announce the return of Hammersmith BID’s Saturday morning’s guided walks.

“We start on 9th October with a walk to mark Black History Month and then we invite residents and businesses to come along on the first Saturday of every month.”

Walkers are invited to come and meet some notable Hammersmith residents who have made significant contributions to Britain’s history and culture. We’ll meet a pioneer of Pan-Africanism, two successful singer-songwriters, some old and new arrivals, as well as a couple of crafty escapees.

Take a break from your desk, learn something new and help contribute to events to mark Black History Month 2021. The walk is free to attend, but pre-registration is required – please book here.

Our regular Guided Walks will continue from November, and will take place on a monthly basis on the first Saturday of every month. The Walks are free to join, and registrations will be via this website.  More information on the scheduled walks can be found here.
