New licensing plans from the Mayor of London

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has set out new licensing plans to boost London’s hospitality and nightlife industries: the proposed London-wide Strategic Licensing Policy.

The aim is to create a simpler and more consistent licensing system across London’s 33 boroughs. This will ideally unlock the full potential of our hospitality, nightlife, tourism and cultural sectors, while keeping the city safe and inclusive. The policy would sit alongside a Licensing Playbook for boroughs, businesses and all those involved in licensing, to support consistency through templates and best practice approaches. The Mayor would also be given the power to call in licensing applications of strategic importance.

A six-week consultation on these licensing plans opened on 12 February and will run until Friday 27 March 2026. Hammersmith BID is encouraging licenses premises to engage with this and give your views. To read more about what is being proposed and respond to the consultation, please visit London Strategic Licensing Consultation | London City Hall.
