24 Jul Police update – June ’15
Arrests in the area are down thanks to the police taking up static positions around the town centre.
These fixed posts are providing a reassuring and highly visible police presence on King Street and have ensured that the Summer Festival proceeded without incident.
These notable positions are making it easier for the police to do their jobs as arrests have been made on Lyric Square as one shoplifter was detained and two others arrested by fixed post police nearby.
The BID’s CCTV operator has, as usual, been working in conjunction with the police by feeding them fast-time information. One male was arrested for going equipped and trying to de-tag items from a large King Street retailer and a female was detained for fleeing the scene after her male partner was also arrested for shoplifting. CCTV had picked her up on King Street and alerted the nearest officer who attended and arrested.
And finally, using the Safetynet Radio system, a shoplifter spotted entering Kings Mall was flagged up to the security team who detained him until the SNT arrived and arrested him.
