09 Nov PRESENTATIONS: A Celebration of Black Art
The BID was proud to present an exhibition, PRESENTATIONS: A Celebration of Black Art, throughout the week of 1 – 5 November. The exhibition, which was curated by Bolanle Tajudeen, was available for public viewing in the foyer area of 3, Shortlands, a Romulus building and the offices of the BID. Artists were invited to submit work that they felt would inspire conversations beyond the usual lens of what it means to be Black in Britain.
To launch the exhibition, the BID held a private view and performance event on Tuesday 2 November. Guests included the Deputy Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Cllr Daryl Brown, as well as representatives from our levy paying businesses, and some of the artists featured in the exhibition.
Guests at the private view were entertained by dancer Caleaf Jonson, a choreographer and dancer from the Lion King Musical UK tour; and Kenedy Jopson, a writer and cultural producer.
The pieces displayed were varied. Curator Tajudeen explained:”the title ‘PRESENTATIONS’ emerges from the many conversations that society has been having around race and identity in Britain.”
Director of Hammersmith BID, Patricia Bench, said:
“The BID was motivated to present this exhibition, following a digital version in 2020, to continue our celebration of the richness of Black art. PRESENTATIONS gives a platform to emerging and established artists; and allows us to reach out to our community through art.
The work showcases beauty and encourages inclusivity. We hope to welcome as many visitors as possible.”
