Safer Town News – ShopWatch

Safer Town News – ShopWatch

Our BID funded officer, PC Julie White, has been making a positive impact in tackling crime across Hammersmith town centre over the past few months. By taking the lead on our ShopWatch initiative – PC White has been providing retailers and businesses with all the latest updates on criminals in the area and how to improve security within their own premises.

Up-to-date crime alerts and images of offenders to be aware of are regularly posted on the easy to use Hammersmith ShopWatch website via DISC. DISC Littoralis is the most secure and data protection compliant platform that enables the police to lawfully share restricted information direct to partners and businesses. It can be instantly accessed on the shop floor via its own smartphone app or viewed on a larger web screen for the benefit of CCTV control rooms. This technology is financed and managed by the BID and is available to all retailers and licensed premises at no cost.

Additional features also include an ID sought facility and the ability to receive alerts, safer town news articles and support documents. Members also receive automated monthly eNewsletters that keeps them connected with all crime related risks in their local area.

By engaging with the relevant and accurate intelligence supplied by the Met Police, businesses are now in a position to significantly improve their business resilience and reduce the impact of crime. The reporting of known offenders or suspicious behaviour via their SafetyNet radio directly to CCTV and the BID funded police officers is also encouraged.

Business Crime Reduction Partnership

The Hammersmith ShopWatch Scheme is a component of the wider Hammersmith BID – Crime Reduction Partnership (BID-CRP). Working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and local authority (LBHF), our objectives are to support the business community by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, and to establish a safer environment in which to work, visit and invest in.

Hammersmith businesses are invited to attend our next ShopWatch meeting that will take place on Thursday the 18th of April, 1400 -1500hrs at Barclays Bank, 75 King St, W6 9HY (first floor). This will be your opportunity to raise your concerns with the BID police team and to find out how we can work together to reduce crime in Hammersmith.

Membership of our ShopWatch Scheme & BID-CRP is free and comes with no obligations. For further information or to join, please contact the BID Operations Manager, Gordon Brockie at g.brockie@hammersmithbid.co.uk
