The BID consults on women’s safety in Hammersmith

Hammersmith BID is working towards a safer environment for women and girls in Hammersmith and is consulting with businesses as to priority areas.

It has prepared a Women’s Safety discussion paper – which is tagged “Every Woman has a right to feel safe in her city”. The paper contains elements including:

  • improved lighting, wayfinding and infrastructure through our Public Realm;
  • training and education;
  • campaigns and communications; and
  • lobbying partners and stakeholders to bring about change.

The team will be presenting its Women’s Safety discussion paper to a closed Forum on Tuesday 14 December, and will be seeking feedback from invited businesses.

This first session will take place before Christmas, as businesses have already fed back about the importance of protecting staff in December. Retail staff are customarily working longer hours over this period; there are many more events and parties, and of course daylight hours are much shorter.

Also at the event, there will be an introduction to the topic from Forum Chair Elaine Jackson of A+E Networks, who will outline some of the imperatives behind this campaign. A Q&A session will follow, and all of the suggestions and amendments will be used to develop the document.
