16 Mar The Boat race is back: A guide to planning your day!
The Boat Race (26 March) is a huge event that fills the atmosphere of south west London with high spirits and cheer. Since the first Men’s Boat Race in 1845, the occasion has continued to attract hundreds and thousands of spectators.
This year, Oxford vs Cambridge go head-to-head racing along the historic 4.25 mile course between Putney and Mortlake. Don’t go to the bridge to watch, Please note that Hammersmith Bridge will close at 11 am and reopen at 6 pm, so spectators will not be able to watch from the bridge itself. More information on Hammersmith Bridge Works.
Instead, head to Hammersmith Fan Park: we’ve heard there will be a big screen streaming the event, so you won’t miss a minute of the action! The Women will race first at 4pm and the Men’s race will start at 5pm. Find out full timetable and more information about the day here.
Make a day of it and organise activities around the town that the whole family will enjoy. Hammersmith is home to an array of theatres, restaurants, shops, pubs and more – perhaps, enjoy lunch out before the race, watch the race, head to the theatre and finish the day for dinner.
