The Last Mile

The BID will be attending the inaugural Last Mile Conference on 16 November.

The topic is important for the BID as we work on expanding our own last mile delivery network in Hammersmith with Parcels not Pollution – a core part of our Public Realm Vision and our commitment to green investment.

Last mile delivery is the most expensive and time-consuming part of the shipping process. Aside from speed and effciency, there is now an additional imperative to reduce emissions and keep pollution and congestion to a minimum, especially in town centres.

The conference will bring together local and planning authorities, investors, developers, consultants, agents and tenants to discuss the challenges of the ‘last mile’ for the logistics and industrial sectors.

Topics to be debated include urban dynamics, sustainability targets, perceptions and the latest opportunities and challenges the sector faces. How can the industrial sector reach carbon net zero? With the increase in last mile delivery, more logistics centres are being created in urban centres. Where are these best positioned and what types of sites are required?  And how do industrial and logistics workspaces need to adapt and transform?

Amongst other speakers, Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy, will give a keynote address outlining the GLA’s approach to environmental sustainability across the industrial and logistics sector.
