HammersmithLondon officially got its third term underway on Friday, April 1 and is busy preparing for a full roster of events, projects and activities lined up for the spring and summer months.
Tantalise your taste buds by sampling the best lunchtime dishes in the town centre as HammersmithLondon’s I Love Lunch competition returns in May. Workers, residents and visitors are asked to vote for their favouite Café, Restaurant and Pub to determine where the best lunchtime eatery in Hammersmith is. The BID’s website and social media accounts will be giving daily updates on the competition, so make sure to check in to see who’s on top.
June sees the return of the much-loved Summer Festival as live theatre, Wimbledon, al fresco yoga, mass picnicking and live opera will come back to Lyric Square for two months of outdoor fun and entertinament. A new art trail will be installed in the town centre in June, encouraging people to make their way around a culture route of Hammersmith. Be sure to keep an eye out for this. HammersmithLondon will be supporting the London Festival of Architecture once again by sponsoring an ideas competition that is open to anyone who can create a creative and interesting vision of Hammersmith – this will be judged by a panel of experts and local decision makers.
The BID’s commitment to Air Quality will be demonstrated as the new Talgarth Road Green Corridor is to be unveiled in early May. The project has converted a neglected run-down area near the Hammersmith Flyover into a flourishing green route with a new cycle lane, additional trees and planting and air quality monitoring stations. A multi-partnership project between the BID, Hammersmith and Fulham Council, the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, this new green corridor will brighten up the area, reduce carbon and attract new wildlife and visitors.
The BID is also working to improve the safety of the area by encouraging businesses to develop and refine their business continuity plans which would come into action should a major incident or disturbance occur in the area. Working closely with the business community, the Met police and Hammersmith and Fulham Council, HammersmithLondon will be researching and reviewing the current state of existing business continuity plans to help develop a simple but effective plan, bespoke to Hammersmith that will help businesses think about threats and issues they may face.
These are just a few of the projects the BID is working on to ensure that it delivers a safe, clean and energised town centre over the next five years.
