16 May Win cash prize for improving Hammersmith town centre
How would you improve Hammersmith Town Centre? This is the question being asked of budding artists, young visionaries, designers and architects who have an idea for how they’d upgrade and revitalise the area.
A new competition is being launched to capture these ideas as part of the London Festival of Architecture. HammersmithLondon Business Improvement District (BID) and West London Link – the group behind the visionary Hammersmith Flyunder scheme – have set up the Imagine Hammersmith Ideas Competition which opens on Tuesday 3 May and runs until Saturday 18 July and is offering two cash prizes.
The aim of the competition is to attract creative and interesting ideas, which will be put before elected decision makers for their consideration with the hope they can be adopted as part of the town centre’s improvement strategy. The competition is open to anybody – not just architects and designers – entries are being encouraged from local schools or individual children under 16.
So what can you imagine for the Hammersmith of the future? If you have an idea, now is the chance to air it in public. It could be anything: a public space, a building, new infrastructure, an event, a monument…whatever you can imagine to help the area.
There will be two categories: Best Hammersmith Town Centre for which there will be a first place price of £1000 and Best Under 16s Entry, for which there will be a prize of £500 which will be awarded to the school.
The judging panel will include :
• Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Stephen Cowan
• Kings Mall Shopping Centre Manager, Andrew Proctor
• HammersmithLondon BID Director, Patricia Bench
• Executive Director of the Lyric Hammersmith, Sian Alexander
• A representative from the London Festival of Architecture
Shortlisted entries will be displayed at a public exhibition in Hammersmith Town Centre. The winner will be revealed at the launch in front of an audience of entrants, architects, artists, designers, developers and local authority representatives.
