02 Feb Winter Wellbeing Fund awards £15K to Small tap, big change
The four local charities supported by Small tap, big change, which are helping rough sleepers and vulnerable people over this winter, have received £15,000 in grant aid.
The money has come from the H&F Winter Wellbeing Community Fund, set up by Hammersmith & Fulham Council, and administered by UNITED in Hammersmith & Fulham. The fund has in turn been sourced from the £170 million COVID Winter Grant Scheme launched by the Government in November 2020.
The quartet of charities supported by Small tap, big change are: Glass Door; Barons Court Project; St Andrew’s Fulham; and The Upper Room.
“All four organisations continue to serve those who do not have the comfort of somewhere to safely ‘stay home’ in and are under growing pressure to meet increased demand,” said Savraj Kaur, executive director of the UNITED in Hammersmith & Fulham charity.
“We are pleased to be able to speedily administer this funding through Small tap, big change.”
The Small tap, big change scheme, launched by Hammersmith BID, focuses on providing outreach services, life skills coaching, washing facilities, hot meals and beds to homeless people in the community, all an antidote to the effects of loneliness and isolation.
Michael Angus of Barons Court Project commented:
“We were delighted to receive a grant from Small tap, Big change from the Winter Wellbeing Fund. This winter has been tough for people on low incomes as they have been told to stay at home, and we have seen an increase in people unable to pay for utilities. For rough sleepers the cold is always a problem, so Barons Court Project aims to provide the warmest of welcomes at our centre.
“The grant we have received will help cover bills at the project to keep the centre warm, and ensure we can offer hot showers and delicious home-cooked meals. We are also offering small grants to our guests in need to top up their gas and electricity, and supermarket vouchers to rough sleepers and people in temporary accommodation. We are grateful to be able to do this from the grant provided.”
