March 2023: Environmental & Street Cleansing Walkabouts

Delivery of Environmental & Street Cleansing Walkabouts

Alongside Green Volunteering, monthly Environmental & Street Cleansing Walkabouts support our commitment to creating a resilient town centre. Reported via the lovecleanstreets app are the various environmental and street cleanliness issues negatively impacting Hammersmith’s public realm. During Environmental Walkabouts, we focus on the issues across the 3 zones. The 3 zones are made up by the Broadway (Zone 1), King Street (Zone 2), and Talgarth Road (Zone 3).

March 2023

In March 2023, we reported 67 incidents via the lovecleanstreets app.

Zone 1: 65 % of the concerns around the Broadway centre involved highway maintenance and highway obstructions. However, a resolution was found for over 70% of these incidents within the first 2 weeks of reporting.

Equally, some more long-term incidents are also being resolved following escalation. The public are now being protected from the hazard caused by exposed wires of the green electrical box outside the Broadway centre.

Zone 2: The High Street, is a hotspot for environmental and cleanliness concerns. Graffiti, and additionally, fly-posting, make up most incidents along King Street. Despite the volume of incidents, over 55% were resolved within 2 weeks. If in 4 weeks, no resolution for unresolved incidents has been found, the concerns will be directed toward the relevant council department.

Zone 3: In less than 2 weeks, 80 per cent of concerns in Zone 3 were resolved. As well as a problem with Fly-tipping, Talgarth Road and Fulham Palace Road are hotspots for Graffiti. However, most issues are dealt with promptly.

Next Steps / Actions: Following discussions with the LET Team at the council, we have established actions for when requests to lovecleanstreets aren’t resolved. If in 4 weeks, no resolution for unresolved incidents has been found, the concerns will be reported directed toward the relevant council department. Furthermore, if this fails, we will follow up directly with the highways team at LBHF, as the majority of concerns fall within the LBHF Highways’ remit.
