Have Your Say – Consultation for LBHF’s Draft Climate Change Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) 2023

Background

Hammersmith & Fulham Council have prepared new planning guides to ensure the development of domestic and non-domestic buildings are environmentally friendly. The new SPD provides developers and planning officers guidance about preparing or assessing planning applications. The ambition for the borough is to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030. The guidance found in the SPD forms a key step toward reaching this goal.

While the growth of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is positive, this also means an influx in the number of developments. Planning Policy adaptations are needed to ensure the developments across the borough don’t adversely impact the environment. The SPD aims to support developers, landowners, homeowners, planning officers and other interested parties.

Document: Summary

In summary, the SPD provides guidance for domestic and non-domestic new builds across all areas including:

          • sustainable design and construction
          • air quality
          • flooding
          • energy
          • ecology
          • waste
          • transport and travel

The report acknowledges the role Planning Policy and strategies around place-shaping, active travel, public transport, shared mobility, and efficient and sustainable building practices can have in mitigating climate change. The Climate Change Planning Document offers best-practice guidance.
