14 Aug Safer Business Network: Vulnerability Training
Vulnerability is when people feel exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. Unfortunately, it is more common than you might think that people feel vulnerable in their own communities, and it isn’t always easy to spot.
Safer Business Network has put together a short animation that shows people how they can help. The animation seeks to support businesses and organisations in training their staff on what vulnerability looks like. Watch here.
Several factors may increase someone’s likelihood of being attacked or targeted (e.g., being alone, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, alcohol or drugs, ethnicity, state of mind, injury or disability). The main signs of vulnerability to look out for are someone being lost or alone, upset or crying, being injured, being unsteady on their feet, shaking or behaving strangely, appearing excited, being quiet or withdrawn or showing signs of intoxication or spiking.
By knowing what signs to look out for and how to respond, people within the community can work together to make our communities and public spaces feel safer and more welcoming. The Ask for Angela Safety Campaign is a way in which businesses can discreetly offer support to those who may be in a vulnerable situation.
