British BIDs Association

Hammersmith BID has again been awarded British BIDs’ highly respected Bb Accreditation.

The Bb Accreditation is the industry recognised standard, externally assessed by independent auditors, and designed in line with the National BID Criteria and the National Guiding Principles for a BID.

As one of the UK’s longest running Business Improvement Districts, Hammersmith BID has set a strong precedent for innovative town centre projects. These forward-thinking initiatives include its renowned Summer Festival programme packed with a range of arts, cultural and entertainment activities, and exciting retail outlet Made in H&F, a pop-up shop that sells products created by local artists and makers.

The business community has also welcomed BID initiatives in improving town centre safety, creating a digital town and promoting sustainability through their multi-award-winning cleaner, greener projects which have been a core part of the BID’s vision.

BID Director Patricia Bench said:

“We are delighted that we have been recognised with the British BIDs’ accreditation. This achievement highlights the strength and innovation of the projects being delivered by the Hammersmith BID team, and the high standards that we maintain for the local business community.”

Global Good Awards 2021

The BID received joint bronze in the ‘Community Partnerships’ Category of the 2021 Global Good Awards.

The award recognised the work of the BID, which established the Parcels Not Pollution scheme alongside other strategic partners including Hammersmith & Fulham Council, TfL and E-Cargobikes.

Livia Caruso, Director of Public Realm, and project lead, said:

“Hammersmith is a hugely important hub for transport and business, and this has traditionally brought a lot of delivery vehicles to the town centre.

“With Parcels Not Pollution, the BID has brought together key partners to deliver a last-mile delivery service and remove harmful air pollution and congestion from the area.”

Members of the BID communications team watched the online awards ceremony – in which the BID was awarded joint bronze in the Community Partnerships category – from an outdoor event to mark Car Free Day on the approach to Hammersmith Bridge.

Healthy Streets Award

Hammersmith BID is delighted to have won a top prize at the prestigious Healthy Streets Awards for the second year running.

The Hammersmith Business Low Emissions Neighbourhood (BLEN) project scooped the prize in the Best Healthy Streets Business Improvement District Project category.

As a busy commuter hub with a high annual footfall, improving the air quality for pedestrians in Hammersmith is paramount. The aim of the BLEN is to improve the space and air quality under the Hammersmith flyover with planters and ivy which provide a natural barrier against emissions from the vehicles on the road. The BLEN also features “Plants not Pollution” artwork and signage and the BID has carried out a programme of community events to raise awareness and educate the public on air quality.

The award win follows the recent roll out of Hammersmith BID’s ‘Parcels Not Pollution’ scheme – the launch of a new zero-emissions freight hub for business deliveries to reduce traffic, ease congestion and improve air quality in the local area, which has also been well received.

The annual Healthy Streets Awards recognise and reward excellence in the planning and delivery of Healthy Street improvements in towns and cities across Great Britain & Ireland. The prizes were handed out at the International Healthy Streets Summit 2019 that was held at Glasgow City Chambers on 9 October.

Patricia Bench, BID Director at Hammersmith BID, said: “This award is a great recognition of the BID’s commitment to improve air quality in Hammersmith. The BLEN is just one of many BID initiatives to create a more environmentally friendly town centre, and builds on the success of the popular parklets and new Parcels Not Pollution service. We aim to continue to deliver more innovative clean air projects in the future.”

The BLEN and community parklets project have also been awarded a silver Global Good Award and a prestigious Nancye Goulden award, a Hammersmith Society accolade. They form part of the BID’s wider commitment to deliver green spaces, cleaner air, and improve the environment.

Nancye Goulden Award

Prestigious award for BID’s green scheme.

It’s a celebration for the BID as their environmental projects receive a prestigious award from The Hammersmith Society.

The parklets and Hammersmith’s Business Low Emissions Neighbourhood (BLEN), which includes the planting under the flyover, have both received the highly regarded Nancye Goulden Award for making a positive contribution to the local streetscape.

The air quality projects have been recognised by the Hammersmith Society for their overall design.

The BLEN includes ivy screens that withstand the difficult environment for plants under the Flyover, and also serve a significant purpose in that they absorb vehicle fumes and pollutants, screening passers-by from the harmful emissions.

The Hammersmith Grove Parklets have enhanced the area’s green space and have positively resulted in a boost to local trade. The scheme has been highly regarded with the Nancye Goulden Award, being the third in a line of honours that the collaborative venture has achieved. The successful project also won a Healthy Streets Awards in October and a Global Good Award in June.

Patricia Bench, BID Director, said: “Our partnerships are key in being able to deliver the best outcomes for the local business community and we look forward to continue working collaboratively on current and future projects.

The project is a part of a wider programme that aims to deliver green spaces, cleaner air, and promote cycling is a partnership between Hammersmith BID, Hammersmith and Fulham Council, Medidata and the Mayor’s office.

“We are delighted to have received the Nancye Goulden Award for both our projects from The Hammersmith Society.”

Global Good Award for BID Partnership

Hammersmith BID is delighted to win a Global Good Award for its wider commitment to delivering green spaces, cleaner air and promoting cycling.

The Parklets in Hammersmith scheme received a silver accolade at the ceremony held on 19th June at BMA House in London. This project is a collaboration between Hammersmith BID, Hammersmith and Fulham Council, Medidata and the Mayor of London.

The Parklets in Hammersmith project was shortlisted and won under the Community Partnership’s Social & Environmental Sustainability category and has been praised for being ‘an innovative business model.’

The gold award went to Hogan Lovells and Barefoot College’s partnership to bring clean, renewable light to 20,000 families by training 400 women across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands. The bronze was awarded to the Thames River Watch Project by Tideway & Thames 21 for gathering data that is supporting campaigns for change on the plastic epidemic.

The Global Good Awards seek to promote, and be inspired by,  organisations and projects committed to sustainability and promoting positive change.

Hammersmith BID’s vision for a cleaner borough resulted in a joint effort towards the creation of eight green spaces that have been transformed into four vibrant green parklets situated on Hammersmith Grove, designed and installed by Meristem Design. The successful scheme has received an award from the Mayor’s Healthy Streets programme. The prestigious Hammersmith Society’s Nancye Goulden Award, has also been awarded for the Parklets and planters under Hammersmith Flyover. This award recognises smaller schemes that have improved the local environment through architecture or landscaping.
