31 Mar Criminals meat their match with BID’s CCTV operator
One hungry thief tried to sate his appetite when he attempted to steal a large quantity of meat from a King Street retailer this month.
However the man was being monitored by the store’s security team and quickly left the premises. The BID’s CCTV operator watched him darting in and out of several other shops and passed on his details to the police.
When he was stopped he was found with a number of other stolen items and was subsequently arrested for shoplifting.
The CCTV operator was also called into action after a group of men snatched a brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 phone from a shop in Kings Mall. Fleeing the centre they ran through Lyric Square and entered the Hammersmith & City tube line station where they began ran along the tracks towards Goldhawk Road. The operator tacked them and took their images, passing the details onto the police, who were waiting for them at Goldhawk Road. All four were arrested and charged with theft and trespassing.
In a third incident, the operator saw three men trying to steal a moped on Queen Caroline Street. Quick to act, he passed the information onto the police who swooped down and arrested them. During the arrest two of the group’s associates interfered, resulting in one of the handcuffed men running away. The police managed to chase him down and arrest him as well as the four others involved.
None of these 10 arrests would have happened had it not been for the Hammersmith CCTV BID Service.
