Talgarth Road Green Corridor Project
Air quality surveys will soon be undertaken along Talgarth Road to ascertain the levels of pollution.
The BID is working in partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council to increase the air quality in this area as it is notorious for its high levels of NO2 and harmful particulates. This area acts as a gateway to Hammersmith from the Eastern end towards Barons Court and runs parallel with the main Hammersmith Road, visitors and cyclists traverse the area regularly but it is clearly in a state of disrepair.
Plans have been put together using funding from LBHF, the BID, DEFRA and the GLA to regenerate this area into a new green corridor that will have improved appearance and functionality.
The aims of the scheme will be to improve the sustainable drainage of the area possibly with Stockholm tree pits to attenuate more water, air quality enhancements to catch the exhaust particulates coming from the flyover and improved biodiversity for a green corridor that will have a positive impact on health and wellbeing for its visitors.
The surveys will establish more precise levels of pollution which will then be hopefully reduced once focused planting and screening has taken place.
Research from the Journal of Environmental Science and Technology has shown that living in an urban area with green spaces has a long-lasting impact on people’s mental well-being and has a sustained positive effect.
We are optimistic that the regeneration of Talgarth Road and the reduction of harmful emissions will help create another green space in Hammersmith which will have a pleasant effect on its visitors.
