Free for Hammersmith Privilege card holders, please join us the Saturday of each month for these insightful one-hour walks exploring the rich history and heritage of Hammersmith.
Saturday 7 May: Film & TV
From the Beatles to Bottom, Steptoe to the Sweeney, familiar Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush locations regularly pop up on small and big screen. This walk takes in some of those locations and tells about the stars who walked our streets.

Saturday 4 June: Lyric Theatre
As the Hammersmith Summer Festival begins with Theatre in the Square, come and learn more about the history of this impressive theatre and West London landmark. Having completed its renovations just last year, explore the tales of the Lyric, both old and new.

Saturday 2 July: Time for type
100 years ago a disillusioned printer threw 4 tons of type off Hammersmith Bridge. And 100 years ago London’s favourite typeface was designed. More about these type tales on this riverside walk.

Saturday 6 August: Gustav Holst
Hammersmith composer of the St. Paul’s and Brook Green suites, who taught, conducted and composed here. Stories of his life and times – and of the pub where he had a swift pint.

Saturday 3 September: Capability Brown
It’s 300 years since Capability Brown designed some of the most famous and best loved gardens in the country. But why did he choose to live in Hammersmith? Hear about the nurseries and market gardens of west London – flourishing businesses supplying London’s markets and introducing new plants.

Saturday 1 October: What’s In A Name?
Ever wondered how the streets of Hammersmith got their names? Who was Nigel Playfair (Avenue), why are the mews called Felgate, and what has the Grove got to do with Cambridge? Find out the etymology of many local street names as we explore the origins behind Hampshire Hog Lane, Angel Walk and, of course King Street, among others.
