Connecting people, business and place
HAMMERSMITH BID BALLOT 2025
In October 2025 Hammersmith BID was successful in its fifth ballot, with the businesses of Hammersmith voting YES for our Business Plan that will see over £5million investment in the town centre over the next five years.
In our Business Plan, we have set out our intentions for our next five-year term, from April 2026 to March 2031.
You voted YES for:
  • A minimum of £5million investment into Hammersmith town centre, plus additional funding secured by the BID through other means
  • Continued and vital investment in safety, place and community
  • Years of expertise in Hammersmith town centre and the surrounding area
  • A strong and united voice for the businesses of Hammersmith
  • A vision for the future of Hammersmith that brings in new businesses, investment and innovation

Since 2006, Hammersmith BID has been working to make Hammersmith the best place in London to work, live, visit and do business. We now have 20 years of experience in delivering for our town centre, through impactful and trailblazing public realm initiatives, blockbuster events and vital security partnerships.

Change is happening in west London, with several major new developments coming to the area, in addition to wider changing working and lifestyle patterns, and it will be essential that Hammersmith has a strong and united voice representing its business community. This Business Plan is our roadmap for the next five years and lays out the projects that are a priority for our businesses and our team. With the BID’s investment, we can make sure Hammersmith remains a thriving destination well into the future.

Hammersmith BID is funded by the BID levy, which for the forthcoming term is a charge of 1.5% of the rateable value of a hereditament. The money raised is ring-fenced for the BID area in Hammersmith town centre, and is spent on services in addition to those provided by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and other statutory bodies.

To create a Business Plan that truly reflects the priorities of all our businesses, our team spent several months engaging with over 75% of our levy payers, both in terms of numbers and rateable value, through one-to-one consultation meetings, business visits, events, video and phone calls, surveys and questionnaires. Through this in-depth consultation process, clear priority areas appeared.
Hammersmith BID Business Plan 2026-2031
Your priorities for 2026-2031
Place
A strong and vibrant sense of place is essential for ensuring Hammersmith is a competitive and desirable place to work, live and visit.

With several exciting new developments opening in the borough over the coming years, this is a pivotal moment for Hammersmith town centre. Hammersmith BID will work to capitalise on these opportunities and be a strong voice for the business community.

As an established town centre with a busy high street, Hammersmith has many advantages and in our next term we will work to maintain our area’s competitive edge.

You voted YES for:
Placemaking and public realm
  • Develop Phase 2 of the Public Realm Vision and work to secure more seed funding for areas including the Lower Bus Station and Flyover Walking Routes, improving the visitor experience for those entering through the Broadway and bus station.
  • Champion the improvement of areas beyond the high street, such as Black’s Road and under Hammersmith Flyover. We will explore ways to repurpose spaces for different projects, for example Multi-use Game Areas for outdoor sports.
  • Work on more placemaking initiatives that activate vacant units, building on the success of our clothes swaps, Made in H&F pop-up shop and the ‘Flow on Show’ women’s health exhibition and public education space.
  • Continue to ensure Hammersmith’s winter lighting is installed each year, adding festive cheer as well as improving public safety during the darker winter months, and installing our Christmas tree in Lyric Square.
Environment and sustainability
  • Keep the environment at the heart of what we do, hosting forums and events to inspire and equip locals and workers with knowledge on environmental policy – from training and briefings to interactive learning during London Climate Action Week and Circular Economy Week.
  • We will keep holding regular Transport and Environment Forums to inform businesses and bring business voices together.
  • Work in tandem with wider strategies for reaching Net Zero Carbon targets set by the Greater London Authority and H&F Council.
  • Continue our work to add more greening and planting to Hammersmith wherever possible, for example Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems which help prevent flooding and soak up rainwater, planters including pollution-absorbing foliage, and attractive planting to soften harsher concrete spaces.
Hammersmith as a thriving destination
  • Continue to celebrate Hammersmith as a key transport hub with important entertainment venues and a successful media sector. We will also help develop Hammersmith as a destination for domestic and international tourism through our work with borough-wide partners including H&F Council.
  • Keep Hammersmith competitive in the office workplace market. We will look to commission research into how we can lower the office vacancy rate and start a working group to focus on this important issue.
  • We will explore running a campaign to attract cutting-edge industries to the area, working alongside initiatives set out in the London Growth Plan and H&F Council’s Upstream London.
  • Use our influence to secure investment and improvement for Hammersmith as part of wider town centre developments and consultations, including King Street.
Safety
A safe town centre has always been a priority for Hammersmith BID.

While Hammersmith & Fulham is one of the safer boroughs of London, we are aware of evolving challenges facing our businesses and are in constant contact with the area’s numerous security teams to tackle business crime.

We want everyone to feel safe when they come to Hammersmith, and will find new ways to build on our proven track record supporting businesses on this issue.

You voted YES for:
A multi-agency approach to tackling business crime
  • As a provider of additional services, we will look to pilot schemes that could provide extra patrols, enforcement and a more visible security presence in Hammersmith town centre.
  • Promote and fund safety training appropriate for the office sector and for our retail, leisure, food and beverage businesses.
  • We will strengthen our successful Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) and work with security partners such as the Met Police and H&F Council to fund additional support through private providers such as Safer Business Network.
Intelligence sharing and training
  • Invest in tech solutions to address safety, for example highlighting town centre safe spaces through the WalkSafe app and the information-sharing platform, Alert!, which offers secure messaging and information sharing for retailers and the evening economy.
  • In addition to regular business visits, we will provide training and support for businesses to report crime and share information on offenders.
  • Continue with our various safety forums including our BCRP, PubWatch, ShopWatch, BuildingWatch and the Women’s Safety Forum for organisations to voice their issues, share information and best practice, and to keep informed of the latest in crime-tackling initiatives.
A holistic approach to safety in the town centre
  • No conversation about crime can be had without tackling the causes of crime, and our businesses understand the complex issues contributing to this. We will take a holistic, multi-agency approach to crime reduction in the town centre by supporting existing work being done in the borough by charities, education and outreach teams to care for vulnerable individuals and to tackle societal issues that can lead to crime.
  • Develop our pioneering work on women’s safety in the town centre through forums, public realm improvements, training, activations and awareness campaigns.
Community
Hammersmith’s businesses value a strong sense of community and vibrancy in the town centre.

Over the past five years, Hammersmith BID has delivered this through our extensive events programme, charity collaborations, our marketing of Hammersmith businesses, corporate volunteering days and much more.

For our fifth term, we plan to build on our highly recognised events programme and keep bringing a sense of community and belonging to Hammersmith.

You voted YES for:
Events and entertainment
  • We will continue and expand our successful events programme, such as our Summer Festival which has entertained hundreds of thousands of people, to bring community spirit to Hammersmith and give residents, workers and visitors more reasons to spend time here.
  • Collaborations with our partners and investing in new and existing town centre events to maximise the BID’s impact and ensure there is a varied mix of events taking place all year round to draw people in and increase dwell time.
  • Street installations and activations are another way we will look to bring more colour, fun and photo opportunities to Hammersmith throughout the year.
  • With the wealth of local arts organisations in the borough, we will also bring more live music, theatre and culture to our events, and contribute to the area’s night-time economy.
Volunteering & CSR opportunities
  • Our businesses have a strong desire to give back to the Hammersmith community. Through Hammersmith BID they are able to make real and tangible contributions to the town centre, whether through joining our litter picks, raising vital funds for charities or taking part in community events.
  • Celebrate our businesses’ good work in the community and inspire others to take action.
  • Through our strong connections to local charities and understanding of what works for our corporate community, we plan to bring more people together and help local workers continue to build a real connection to Hammersmith.
  • Maintain our website page of volunteering opportunities and continue to source new ones.
Marketing Hammersmith and the Privilege Card
  • Our Hammersmith BID social media, website and email channels will continue to provide fantastic marketing coverage for Hammersmith’s businesses, as one of the few platforms focused on our part of west London.
  • We will refresh and invest in the marketing of Hammersmith to provide maximum benefit for our businesses who rely on footfall and spend in Hammersmith.
  • We will continue to grow our Privilege Card which is used by over 18,000 people to discover new local favourites and offer an incentive for office workers to eat out and shop while they are in Hammersmith.
  • Sector-specific campaigns, such as Fitness Fortnight, are another way we plan to support our businesses and bring locals, workers and visitors to Hammersmith.
Expanding the BID Area
For our next term and following requests from businesses, we will be expanding our work into the neighbouring area of Brook Green. This will bring into the BID several larger businesses who already align closely with our work and share the same values, principles and desires of improving safety, place and community.

The new boundary is a natural fit for our existing area, extending our work further along Shepherds Bush Road, incorporating a major supermarket, several large office buildings and bringing the open space of Brook Green into the BID zone.

This marks a logical next step in Hammersmith BID’s work. We will bring together more like-minded businesses supportive of the BID’s work, expand our security offering throughout a wider area and access more outdoor space for our events programme.

Who we are

Hammersmith BID is a business improvement district set up in 2006 to represent the town centre businesses and is funded by a levy on our 220 members. Through this levy and with additional income generated by the BID, a total of £4.8million has been invested into Hammersmith town centre over our past five-year term.

Our work covers the green economy and improving Hammersmith’s public realm and shared spaces; keeping Hammersmith safe and secure through continuous work with our security partners; and creating a sense of vibrancy through our varied events programme, which brings thousands into the town centre, generates trade for businesses and entices workers and locals to spend more time here.

2026 will mark our 20th year of being a strong voice for the businesses of Hammersmith.

“The BID team is an invaluable resource for us. By collaborating with the BID on projects such as the Summer Festival, Feel Good Tuesdays, our family sports days and sustainability events like clothes swaps and Conscious Christmas, we have increased the reach and exposure of the Livat brand. It’s also helped us meet our sustainability, wellbeing and community KPIs.”

Giuliana Michaj, Partner Relationship Leader, Livat Hammersmith

“At Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre we have welcomed working with Hammersmith BID in innovative ways to create ‘meanwhile spaces’ in empty units. The BID’s pragmatic and flexible approach, along with its strong links to the community and the Council, has resulted in a pop-up art exhibition and education centre from a local organisation championing period dignity; and a gift shop supporting local artists and makers, offering them an incubator space to sell their products and grow their business.”

Imogen Prifti, Asset Manager, Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre

“Primark is delighted to be working with Hammersmith BID, strengthening safety and security via our Business Crime Reduction Partnership. Through the BID and its work with Safer Business Network, we have been able to build capacity to report crimes and grow our relationship with the local police team, resulting in more operations and patrols instore and the arrest of repeat offenders. We also benefit from ShopWatch meetings and security updates on the GDPR-compliant Alert! app, all courtesy of the BID.”

Neil Coakley, Store Manager, Primark Hammersmith

“At Hearst Networks, we’re proud to be members of Hammersmith BID’s Pride Network. Since its launch in May 2024, we’ve collaborated on both the 2024 and 2025 Hammersmith Summer Street Festivals. It’s inspiring to be part of an initiative that connects allies and members of the local LGBTQ+ employee community. We look forward to continuing to make Hammersmith a welcoming place for all.”

Jason Derr, Director, International Technology, Hearst Networks

“On behalf of Disney’s Green Team, I would like to extend sincerest thanks to the Hammersmith BID team for their invaluable support during our Earth Month activities, including the Litter Pick and Clothes Swap event.
